Need to update – Bing Travel Search & Web 2.0

June 22nd, 2009

God i nearly forget this place. For the sake of money paid for the domain, i need to write something here.

Internship here in Beijing is always a double-edged sword for me, i miss everything in suzhou and also treasure the opportunity given here. To be a developer for the first time, I feel the happiness from coding and pressures from all the other people, like designer and project manager. Coding is an addictive job, you will never like it until you touch it. And you will spend more and more time on it since you are looking for the best ways to code.

Currently I join a project which concerns with a new field under the current Microsoft search engine “Bing.com”, which is called “Travel Search”. It combines with the versatile functions from Bing, including map search, picture search and blog search. It can automatically search users’ blogs and display the route travellers planned previously. I read a book about Web 2.0 several days ago which talks about the benefits brought by this new technique. What is web 2.0? Generally speaking, it is a new-generation web community, in which most of the information is supplied by its users instead of its webmasters, such as Wikipedia. Now more and more  websites apply this concept and become popular, the famous example in China can be Douban.com. All the users share their comments, their likes and dislikes on douban, thus it becomes a huge user community and stores huge information.

It is a great concept that people realize that it is never enough information for one-way communication (web -> users). We need multiple communication (users to users) to enlarge the information content. Smart people will still take advantage of this concept and earn their loyal users and money. But i think it is not too far from the next generation, Web 3.0. Who will know what will it be like? You figure it out earlier, more advantage you will take.

This passage is too technical. Whether you like it or not, these sentences just rushed into my head and I just wrote them down on my out-of-date blog. One more advertisement, “Please bing it everyday”.
